composer, teacher

Jaakko Linjama (1909-1983) worked as a teacher and cantor in Muurame. As a composer he was a pupil of Aarre Merikanto's and a moderate modernist. Choral compositions and especially choral compositions to the accompaniment of an orchestra constitute a central part of his production. Linjama composed the winning entry for the Olympic Hymn of 1952. It is said that Linjama's Olympic Hymn put the Municipality of Muurame on the map of Finland.
